The gut renovation of this 2700 square foot 5th floor loft in an 1858 landmarked cast iron facade building on Broadway began with leveling both the floors and ceiling as the building had sunk six inches on the south side due to construction in an adjacent building. The client, a professional photographer, had requested a space that could function as not only as a residence, but also as his studio, office, and as a gallery and entertainment space. The living and dining area doubles as his photography studio with the custom teak kitchen acting as a focal point. A large central office with concealable 12-foot teak desk and shelving on one side is lined with deep storage on the opposite wall for his camera equipment and long rolls of paper which act as backdrops. The third wall contains a queen-size murphy bed and closet. An 11-foot long, 10-foot high ceiling hung sliding door closes the office for privacy and when it is being used as a guest room, allowing access to further concealed equipment storage closets behind. Adjacent to the office is the master bedroom with built-in custom closets behind large sliding anigre doors. Both the master bathroom and second bathroom are lined with limestone slabs and tiles on the walls and floors, as well as having custom designed concrete and caesarstone teak vanities and heated floors. An 80-foot gallery wall with museum-style concealed hanging rails and lighting runs the entire length of the loft, from the entry with concealed powder room, to the restored arched windows looking out on to Broadway.
